Rating: 3.8/5 Review: "Attack on Titan movie review" "A big budget Japanese film that is full of exciting visuals but skims on characters' development." I am not a fan of Attack on Titan however I read the first few volume of the popular manga. The manga is action-packed and tense enough with lots of characters' deaths. The film, noticeably has a few major changes, is fortunately as action-packed but with its short runtime of 1 hour and 38 minutes, its characters' development is undercooked. In the end, ignore the awkward characters' development and you will get one of Japan's most visually interesting films. The story: It starts slow before punching straight into the destruction and gore. The opening scene establishes the relationship among Eren (Haruma Miura), Mikasa (Kiko Mizuhara) and Armin (Kanata Hongo). It comes a bit cheesy with the music but overall, the scene did its job. When the destruction, it is a spectacle. The Titans a
Rating: 3.4/5 Review: "Southpaw movie review" "A well made but disappointingly generic boxing film." There are a few recent boxing films that held my attention with its characters' development and such are The Fighter and The Warrior. Not to say Southpaw is entirely bad but it is nothing new. In fact, I feel that a good boxing film has to rely on acting of the stars and the emotional depth. To be fair, Southpaw has it. It has the great Jake Gyllenhaal to deliver one of his best performances and a strong performance from Forest Whitaker. That is about it. The story: A simple story of a fallen man picking himself up. The story is like any other boxing film. No surprises or twists. Just plain straight forward complete with a training montage. However the actors have done their parts to engage the audience with their emotions. Even Rachel McAdams, who appears for a short while, and Oona Laurence (who plays as the daughter of Jake's character) deliver
Rating: 3.7/5 Review: "Fantastic Four movie review" "A decent gritty reboot that could have been something more than what it is now." This is Josh Trank's first big budget movie and it seems he is slightly inexperienced of directing a movie of a massive scale. Fresh from directing a small budget movie, Chronicle, it seems that he is overwhelmed by whatever happened (there are rumours that Matthew Vaughn was brought in to reshoot). Nonetheless, on the whole, the reboot is an alright movie that rehashes on the tired superhero origin. It is disappointing that it is a little shallow. I think with a longer runtime, it could benefit the characters' development and flow of the story. The story: Apparently, the writers of the film said that it does not follow any story from the source material. Instead, a new origin is created. I didn't exactly know how the original source material goes (I read a couple of Fantastic Four comic books to know the tone
