Rating: 4/5 Review: "Edge of Tomorrow movie review" It is probably one of the freshest blockbuster for a while. Although its idea is from a Japanese novel, it does not feel bloated and tired like some franchises in this summer are suffering. The movie is what the trailers are suggesting; big-budget action-packed sci-fi movie. But what the trailers didn't reveal is its surprising sense of humour. It feels fresh because blockbusters nowadays take themselves too seriously and this doesn't. The story: It surprisingly starts off without an action scene (many blockbusters like to start off with a big bang action scene). Tom Cruise plays William Cage who is suddenly put in the front line of a battle. The thing is that he is not used to combat. The action starts not long when he is plunged into the battle between alien and human. After he dies the first time, he is brought back to life again. And it goes on. That sums up the first act. Rating: 4.4/5 Review: "X-Men: Days of Future Past movie review" X-Men is the longest running franchise and it is clearly not slowing down at all. Before when this is even showing in cinema, the sequel is announced by Bryan Singer. The question is "Is the franchise getting tired?" After watching this, it is a safe bet that there can still be something fresh in the franchise. I have to admit that I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the latest instalment. My hopes were not very high before watching this as I was actually getting tired of the many movies being churned out every two years. I was also disappointed when Matthew Vaughn dropped out as the director and Bryan Singer was to replace him. I am not saying Bryan Singer is a bad director but I feel that he suits more to characters-driven movies rather than big-budget action movies. However this time, he proves me wrong. Rating: 4/5 Review: "Godzilla 3D movie review" I am not a Godzilla fan although I remember watching some of the older movies when I was young. The latest incarnation has received mixed reviews. Most of the negative reviews have mentioned that Godzilla, the supposedly main character, only appears in the last half and hour. Some even took the effort to count the exact screen time of Godzilla. They have complained that since it is called Godzilla, the monster should appear throughout the movie. The movie instead focuses more on the human characters. And it is not a bad thing at all, Godzilla still proves to be a thrilling ride. Rating: 3/5 Review: "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D season 1 TV review" With recent 22nd episode ending off season 1, I can safely say that the whole season has not been consistent. I remembered not being very thrilled when a TV adaption of S.H.I.E.L.D was announced. It was like Marvel wanted to bank on more characters being adapted due to the success of their movies especially The Avengers. But I did not mind it as Joss Whedon was on board in bringing the TV series alive. Sadly, after the first episode, the spark and energy seemed to be gone. I will give the overview of the whole season. First 10 Episodes: The first episode (directed by Joss Whedon) has the energy and the pace that kept me interested. Rating: 3.7/5 Review: "Transcendence movie review" The fact that this is directed by Wally Pfister, the cinematographer for most of Christopher Nolan, raises the bar high. What else could go wrong with the thought-provoking idea of technology? The low rating on Rotten Tomatoes and IMDB proves that people expect more than just an entertaining two hour sci-fi flick. The story: Johnny Depp plays Dr Will Caster who is interested in using technology to change the world. Later in the movie, he is shot and although he barely survives, he will die soon. His wife played by Rebecca Hall cannot accept the fact he is dying. She tries all means to upload his consciousness into a computer (a project which they are currently working). The story is intriguing as it uses technology (a little over the top) and merges it into the society. The thing is that the whole idea then becomes a somewhat generic movie. Rating: 4.5/5 Review: "The Amazing Spider Man 2 movie review" This has apparently mixed reviews and is the worst reviewed Spider Man movie on Rotten Tomatoes. It is hard to believe that it has a worse percentage than Sam Raimi's Spider Man 3. Yes, there may be similarities between the two movies; over-crowded, overlong, relying a lot on CG etc. But The Amazing Spider Man 2 has a more engaging plot focusing on the relationship between Peter and Gwen. However said, both of them have their own merits and bad points. The story: It continues where it last stops in The Amazing Spider Man. It starts off with montage of Peter's parents. It is quite generic but at least, the director didn't forget about the mystery. The next scene features an action scene (a chase scene) to keep the viewers on their seat.
