Review: "The Treacherous the Director's cut DVD review"
"The Treacherous has unlikeable main characters but its pacing and controversial scenes are able to make the film more watchable."
The Treacherous has unlikeable characters who are borderline insane but director Min Kyu-dong keeps the pace brisk and avoids sappy drama. Like the title, the main characters' actions are unjustifiable and it is a little awkward when one character has a change of heart. Min Kyu-dong seems more interested in packing the film with nudity, sex and violence. There is no shortage of controversial scenes as he aims to push the boundary of the 18 rating in South Korea.
Director's cut: I have seen both the director's cut and theatrical version. Surprisingly the director's cut is almost 9 minutes shorter. There isn't a lot of differences in both versions. It seems the director's cut includes a bit more sex. However the noticeable change is the ending. I didn't like the ending for the director's cut as it is too rushed and ends abruptly. Though the theatrical version ends in a cliche way, it is still more satisfying than the director's cut.
Packaging: The two DVDs are housed in a digipack edition with a photo booklet.
Special features: The two disc DVD edition delicates one version on one disc. It includes almost 35 minutes of special features. Disc 1 includes the making of, a comparison of the before and after of CGI, a video on the actors training for the fight scenes. The deleted scenes (8 minutes) on Disc 2 are interesting enough but strangely includes the ending scene of the theatrical version. A decent sorts of special feature. They don't come with english subtitles though.
