Review: "Shadowhunters season 1 TV review"

The first adaption of The Mortal Instruments received negative response from critics and fans and did not do big in box office. Thus, a sequel was not greenlighted and the fans are given a 13-episode season. Having a TV series is not necessary a bad thing as there is more time to develop the characters. After a decent first episode, the rest of the episodes felt more episodic with subplots to fill up the runtime. This results an unnecessary drawn-out season.

The story: The Mortal Instruments film has only two hours to adapt a book. Though fans complained that a lot of details are left out, I enjoyed its brisk pace. Although the TV series has longer time to develop the characters, at the end of the season, I felt nothing much for the characters. Even when it comes to the big twist between two characters, it felt lackluster. Despite its shallow character's development, Shadowhunters still tries its best to look good. It has decent production values and a group of attractive cast. Most of the episodes are entertaining enough but they do not come across as memorable.

Overall: The TV adaption is made for the fans only. Its supernatural theme and attractive cast should be able to attract others outside the target audience but after a few episodes into, it is hard to see why it should be watched til the final episode. As the final episode ends with a whimp, it will seem that only the fans would continue to watch. Despite the cliffhanger, I had little motive to continue after the first season.

Rating: 4.5/5 Review: "Man of Steel movie review" With all the hype from the trailers, I must say this is what it looks to be expected. I have to say that this is the biggest and epic superhero movie yet. This treats destructions like child's play. It is also the most explosive superhero movie. There are so much explosions that they could literally make you exhausted from watching all those. Although this is directed by Zack Snyder, this does not have much of his trademark except the visuals. His slo-mo trademark is not featured. Instead, the action is rapid fast. Man of Steel is a good entertainment with exciting action scenes and visuals but at the same, a somehow touching human drama. The story: We get an extended opening scene on Krypton where Kal-El is just born. However the planet is going to be destroyed with General Zod adding to the problem. To save Kal-El, he has to be sent to another planet known as Earth. What is interesting about the movie that it do...
Rating: 3.5/5 Review: Taken DVD review Taken is a new action movie that makes the audiences want more hard and gritty action flicks. I can see that now. Taken has the drama (Yawn!) and the realistic action (Like the Borne movies). Clocking at only 1 and a half hour, the movie starts off slow with drama. After half and hour pass, it goes straight to the intensity and non-stop realistic action. I don't like the slow start. As it is only 1 and a half hour, it do not have the time for slow characters' development. It should drive straight to the action, unless it clocks around 2 hours. The story: It seems to be the usual kidnapping movies where the bad guys kidnap some random girl/boy and ask for ransom. But in this, they kidnap young women to become sex-slaves. A father of a kidnapped daughter is enraged and goes to Paris where his daughter is. "I will find you! I will kill you!" He says to the bad guys. He starts punching and kicking people to hell. He kicks men's b...
Rating: 3.5/5 Review: "From Vegas To Macau 2 movie review" "Loads of fun in Wong Jing's bigger sequel." Wong Jing is back with more madness, action, explosion and a longer runtime. As every sequel tries to top its original in every way, From Vegas To Macau 2 is no different. Lots of explosion, lots of wacky humour and more CGI, if these are your entertainment, the movie will do you no wrong. From the opening gun fight to the CGI climax, the story is kept brisk to keep your attention in check. The story: Chow Yun-fat is back as the titular gambler, Ken, with the magic hand. This time, the movie exaggerates his skills with CGI poker cards until it almost becomes a fantasy. But that's to be expected in a Wong Jing's movie. This time, the location is shifted to Thailand where Mark (Nick Cheung), an accountant in a money-laundering syndicate, DOA, is chased by Interpol and DOA. Ken has to save him and help his protege, Vincent (Shawn Yue). Wong Ji...
