Review: "G.I Joe: Retaliation movie review"

G.I Joe: Rise of Cobra is loud, big and cartoony whereas the sequel is more darker and gritter and the action is more grounded. The tone is different in some sense but both are enjoyable. This time, Jon Chu helm the lower-budget action movie and he did a decent job.

The story: It is as straight-forward as the first one but what this does better is the thrills. Yes, Rise of Cobra contains big explosive action set pieces but there is no sense of real threat as they seem cartoonish. Retaliation's action is more grounded so it is more tense. There are some action scenes worth noting such as the thrilling fight scene on the mountain. Not to worry, this is also as action-packed as the first one. Acting wise is okay for an action movie. Music is okay but not as good as the first one.

Overall: I would have to say I enjoyed this more than the first due to its tense action. People who enjoyed Rise of Cobra because its over-the-top Sci-Fi action may be disappointed in this as Retaliation does not really have what the first has. I would like to see another sequel, perhaps ending as a trilogy.

Rating: 3.5/5 Review: Taken DVD review Taken is a new action movie that makes the audiences want more hard and gritty action flicks. I can see that now. Taken has the drama (Yawn!) and the realistic action (Like the Borne movies). Clocking at only 1 and a half hour, the movie starts off slow with drama. After half and hour pass, it goes straight to the intensity and non-stop realistic action. I don't like the slow start. As it is only 1 and a half hour, it do not have the time for slow characters' development. It should drive straight to the action, unless it clocks around 2 hours. The story: It seems to be the usual kidnapping movies where the bad guys kidnap some random girl/boy and ask for ransom. But in this, they kidnap young women to become sex-slaves. I have no doubt that it looks good in 3D since the previous movie looks good in 3D. To say the truth, Resident Evil: Retribution seems to be nothing special without the amazing 3D like what Resident Evil: Afterlife is.
