Review: "Pacific Rim 3D movie review"
It is rare to see a huge blockbuster like this disappoints at the box office. The trailers show this as a huge action-packed blockbuster filled with CGI. The trailers are not wrong. Perhaps the audiences are tired of seeing giant robots dishing out. This is actually no difference with Michael Bay's Transformers in term of big action and spectacle.
The story: The movie opens up with a brief introduction of Kaijus invading and destroying earth. The only thing humans can do is to create robots to match with their size and power. The introduction moves on to the opening action scene which will reassure the audiences that it will deliver big wham-bam action and great special effects. The story is actually very simple. Guillermo del Toro's movies are always simple but his vision is the one that makes the movies a whole lot better. Pacific Rim is no difference but it shows what Guillermo can do with a big budget. The action and special effects are top-notch and they help the otherwise generic movie to be massively entertaining. Music is good and add to the good points of the movie. Acting wise is okay, the actors and actresses do not do much.
The 3D: It is another good looking 3D movie. There is the depth. It has the most important thing for a robot/giant movie. The contrast between robots and humans. It is something Jack the giant Slayer fails to convey. 3D effects work the least during the action scenes as they are often in the dark. Overall, the effects are excellent for a post-converted 3D movie.
Overall: It has what a blockbuster has. It has lots of big action, epic music and lots of destruction. What Guillermo does is amazing. He can turn mindless action into cinematic action scenes that are worth seeing them alone. The special effects are definitely top-notch as compared to Man of Steel and some of other blockbusters. It is a pity that it didn't gain recognition in box office and it is puzzling. Pacific Rim is worth to be caught in cinema just for the amazing special effects and action.
