Review: "Red X Pink (Girl's Blood) Director's Cut Blu Ray review"
Note that I have watched it without English subtitles. Not that I understand everything but the movie is quite straight-forward to understand without subtitles. The story revolves around four female characters. They take part in an underground fighting event. Satsuki (Yuria Haga from Kamen Rider 555) is the main character who does not embrace her female gender. In the event, she comes across and somehow bonds with three other females who have their individual problems.
Koichi Sakamoto, who is familiar in directing various child-friendly Kamen Rider movies, is a strange choice to direct a movie filled with sex and titillation. There are two graphic girl-on-girl sex scenes with nudity and in most scenes, the female characters dress skimpily. Other than sex, his direction for the fight scenes is decent. Having a background of directing Tokusatsu action, the wham-bam brutal fight scenes prove his strength. The movie runs briskly without slowing down and is packed with fight scenes. it is a guilty pleasure that is worth to watch if you have time.
I have watched the director's cut version which is ten minutes longer than the theatrical version. I have not watched the theatrical version so I cannot compare. I assume that there are additional scenes that add to the characters' development. Note that the director's cut is rated R-18 while the theatrical is rated R-15 in Japan.
Special features-2.5/5
The Blu Ray special edition has three discs. However, disappointingly, only the director's cut is on Blu Ray. The theatrical version and special features are on two separate DVDs. The special features are only a sole making of and event footage. The making of (28 minutes) is a standard behind the scenes and interviews with cast and director. The event footage (22 minutes) is kind of boring if you don't understand the language. None is subbed. The movie is not subbed too. The Blu Ray is all region while the other two DVDs are region 2.
The special edition comes with a booklet and a pointless set of trading cards. Overall, the special edition is an okay purchase. However just having the director's cut on Blu ray and lack of special features do not justify its cost. But then, I am reminded Japan is expensive.
