Review: "Fifty Shades of Grey movie review"

"An average steamy drama saved by decent cinematography, acting and some well-shot sex scenes."

The books are a hit so it is no surprise when an adaptation is announced. I have not read the books so I can't say how close the movie is with the first book. As a movie, it is somewhat alright to watch but it lacks the 'must-watch' factor. One of the biggest flaws is the runtime of 2 hours. Halfway through the movie, it is obvious that the story is going nowhere. I felt that a good 5-10 minutes could be shaved off to move the story forward faster.

The story: It is just the usual romance plot where the girl falls for the handsome man. Character development is not strong here. Dakota Johnson, who plays Anastasia Steele, is attractive in some ways and matches with the good-looking Jamie Dornan (plays Christian Grey). Dakota has not much to act out in the first half of movie other than to swoon over the hunk and moan in the bedroom. However, in the second half, her acting has improved and started displaying more emotions. Jamie Dornan's role does not require him to show a wide range of emotions other than the brooding and cool emotions. The decently shot sex scenes are graphic for a mainstream movie however they do not go overboard. The director, Sam Taylor-Johnson, is smart enough to know when to stop in those scenes. Music by Danny Elfman is alright.

Overall: Fans of the hit books will definitely catch this and will get the kicks seeing their favourite characters come to life. It is understandable if males do not get what is all the hype about: The books and movie are geared toward females. Other than some graphic sex scenes, this movie does not have much to offer. The story is almost non-existent, the character development is tepid and the acting only improves in the second half of the movie. As a guy, I can safely say if you missed this in cinema, don't be worried. However even if it is not a 'must-watch' movie in cinema, I would say it will be enough of an entertainment at home on a boring day. As this is an intended trilogy, I wouldn't mind catching the next one to see how their relationship has progressed.

Rating: 4.5/5 Review: "Man of Steel movie review" With all the hype from the trailers, I must say this is what it looks to be expected. I have to say that this is the biggest and epic superhero movie yet. This treats destructions like child's play. It is also the most explosive superhero movie. There are so much explosions that they could literally make you exhausted from watching all those. Although this is directed by Zack Snyder, this does not have much of his trademark except the visuals. His slo-mo trademark is not featured. Instead, the action is rapid fast. Man of Steel is a good entertainment with exciting action scenes and visuals but at the same, a somehow touching human drama. The story: We get an extended opening scene on Krypton where Kal-El is just born. However the planet is going to be destroyed with General Zod adding to the problem. To save Kal-El, he has to be sent to another planet known as Earth. What is interesting about the movie that it do...
Rating: 3.5/5 Review: Taken DVD review Taken is a new action movie that makes the audiences want more hard and gritty action flicks. I can see that now. Taken has the drama (Yawn!) and the realistic action (Like the Borne movies). Clocking at only 1 and a half hour, the movie starts off slow with drama. After half and hour pass, it goes straight to the intensity and non-stop realistic action. I don't like the slow start. As it is only 1 and a half hour, it do not have the time for slow characters' development. It should drive straight to the action, unless it clocks around 2 hours. The story: It seems to be the usual kidnapping movies where the bad guys kidnap some random girl/boy and ask for ransom. But in this, they kidnap young women to become sex-slaves. A father of a kidnapped daughter is enraged and goes to Paris where his daughter is. "I will find you! I will kill you!" He says to the bad guys. He starts punching and kicking people to hell. He kicks men's b...
Rating: 3.5/5 Review: "From Vegas To Macau 2 movie review" "Loads of fun in Wong Jing's bigger sequel." Wong Jing is back with more madness, action, explosion and a longer runtime. As every sequel tries to top its original in every way, From Vegas To Macau 2 is no different. Lots of explosion, lots of wacky humour and more CGI, if these are your entertainment, the movie will do you no wrong. From the opening gun fight to the CGI climax, the story is kept brisk to keep your attention in check. The story: Chow Yun-fat is back as the titular gambler, Ken, with the magic hand. This time, the movie exaggerates his skills with CGI poker cards until it almost becomes a fantasy. But that's to be expected in a Wong Jing's movie. This time, the location is shifted to Thailand where Mark (Nick Cheung), an accountant in a money-laundering syndicate, DOA, is chased by Interpol and DOA. Ken has to save him and help his protege, Vincent (Shawn Yue). Wong Ji...
