Rating: 3.4/5 Review: "Almost Human season 1 TV review" The previews of it look promising; high budget production, packed with action, Sci-Fi story and J.J Abrams' lens flare. Come to the actual series, it is not bad but it deserves to be better with all the things involved. EP 1: It starts off with a big bang featuring a high octane action scene. The rest of the runtime is briskly paced. It doesn't bother to introduce all of the characters in details. It just zooms straight to the action. As usual, the first episode is packed with enough action and thrill. EP 2-13: After a thrilling 1 episode, unfortunately the rest of the episodes turn familiar and not so fresh. Every episode has a story that has been seen before. The story is just backed by high production, interesting visuals and the likeable chemistry between the two main characters. Rating: 3.5/5 Review: "Arrow season 1 Blu ray review" DC Comic may not be as active as Marvel but at least, it is trying. More DC Comic adaptations are fast tracking. This year will even see The Flash being adapted on small screen. But before all this, there is Arrow which adapts superhero The Green Arrow. The first season of 23 episodes is energetic and briskly paced but it is over-long. There are some episodes that drag down the season. The episodes: The first episode sets the tone and the gritty action for the series. The action throughout the season is not big, it is rather small-scaled and usually involves one-on-one fights. However, the neat choreography is outstanding although sometimes the fast edit and shaky camera ruin it. The plot is nothing special. Rating: 3.8/5 Review: Maleficent movie review" Fairy tales are popular to be adapted into movies. The trend for these adaptions is to make them dark and brooding like Snow White and the Huntsman. Maleficent is not as dark as the trailers suggest. Bear in mind that it is by Disney. Disney are always known for kid-friendly movies even for live-action such Alice in Wonderland and Oz the Great and Powerful. Sure, this movie may feel gloomy but the spirit of it is actually more light-hearted than serious. There is no serious sense of threat. Maleficent is at most an entertaining one and a half hours CGI spectacle. The story: Before watching this, I'm sure viewers will know who Maleficent is even without watching the classic animated movie by Disney. She has an iconic evil image. Rating: 4/5 Review: "Edge of Tomorrow movie review" It is probably one of the freshest blockbuster for a while. Although its idea is from a Japanese novel, it does not feel bloated and tired like some franchises in this summer are suffering. The movie is what the trailers are suggesting; big-budget action-packed sci-fi movie. But what the trailers didn't reveal is its surprising sense of humour. It feels fresh because blockbusters nowadays take themselves too seriously and this doesn't. The story: It surprisingly starts off without an action scene (many blockbusters like to start off with a big bang action scene). Tom Cruise plays William Cage who is suddenly put in the front line of a battle. The thing is that he is not used to combat. The action starts not long when he is plunged into the battle between alien and human. After he dies the first time, he is brought back to life again. And it goes on. That sums up the first act. Rating: 4.4/5 Review: "X-Men: Days of Future Past movie review" X-Men is the longest running franchise and it is clearly not slowing down at all. Before when this is even showing in cinema, the sequel is announced by Bryan Singer. The question is "Is the franchise getting tired?" After watching this, it is a safe bet that there can still be something fresh in the franchise. I have to admit that I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the latest instalment. My hopes were not very high before watching this as I was actually getting tired of the many movies being churned out every two years. Rating: 4/5 Review: "Godzilla 3D movie review" I am not a Godzilla fan although I remember watching some of the older movies when I was young. The latest incarnation has received mixed reviews. Most of the negative reviews have mentioned that Godzilla, the supposedly main character, only appears in the last half and hour. Some even took the effort to count the exact screen time of Godzilla. They have complained that since it is called Godzilla, the monster should appear throughout the movie. The movie instead focuses more on the human characters. Rating: 3/5 Review: "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D season 1 TV review" With recent 22nd episode ending off season 1, I can safely say that the whole season has not been consistent. I remembered not being very thrilled when a TV adaption of S.H.I.E.L.D was announced. It was like Marvel wanted to bank on more characters being adapted due to the success of their movies especially The Avengers. But I did not mind it as Joss Whedon was on board in bringing the TV series alive. Sadly, after the first episode, the spark and energy seemed to be gone.
